Rainy Day in Athens

When we woke up today it was raining really hard, so we had a chill morning. We got the most incredible Greek yogurt from the street topped with honey, pecans, and cherries. It was delicious, and beats any yogurt from the US. Let me tell you, Greek yogurt from the US doesn’t even begin to compare to the yogurt here.
A couple buildings away from our B&B, there was the Greek War and Innovation museum. We spent a couple hours there learning about Greek war weapons and scientific discovery. Did you know the Greeks used 200 foot boat platforms to go over city walls on the ocean? Now you do!

Next, we went to the street market to get food for dinner. It was unlike anything I have ever seen. Overflowing containers with dried herbs, flowers, and spices met me at every corner. Trays of olives, bottles of oil, and colorfully wrapped chocolates could be seen from the tiny shops. Even in the middle of winter, fresh fruit was available. However, the most interesting thing was the vintage shops. These shops had everything you could imagine. From vintage film cameras to bowls of jewelry, there was absolutely everything in a mess that I had to dig through. I even found a jeweled dagger. It was incredible. We ended up getting trays of olives, pistachios, and chicken kabobs for dinner.

Since we had a late start, we didn’t pack as much in as we did yesterday, but we plan on exploring the ancient agora tomorrow!
